CURRENT PROJECTS:     We currently have finished the construction phase of the Internado. The Municipality has registered students from rural and coastal communities and ranches throughout the Municipio of Loreto to live at the Internado and attend classes with students from Ligüí and Ensenada Blanca starting August 28.  There should be some 40 students for high school and a few younger ones for middle school.

Because high school is not required by Mexico, students have to bear much of the cost, including inscriptions, books, uniforms and teachers’ salaries.   AsistED will help defray part of  the remaining costs in amounts that may vary depending on circumstances.

This is the beginning of a new project, and there are sure to be unforeseen needs and expenses. AsistED will devote highest priority to making sure that this project succeeds.

  • OUR IMMEDIATE PLAN and our top 2 priorities are:

To make sure we have the funds to assist the students and the Internado, and to seek donations of equipment such as furniture, bedding and housekeeping needs for the Internado.

Our other priorities for 2003/2004 are:

  1. To seek funding for a Library/Study Hall/Computer Center at the site of the Internado.

  2. To seek government assistance in providing electricity for the school.

  3. To seek support to provide direct Internet access to the site.

  4. Both electric power lines and a fiber-optic telephone cable pass within 0.5 km of the site.  The Internado is forced for the present to rely on solar panels for electricity. The need is to receive a priority from the Federal Commission on Electricity for service from the grid so as to have ample power for lights, refrigeration, and the computer center.  And to receive help from TelMex (Telefonos de Mexico) for high-speed Internet access.
