ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2003/4
Placed one English/computer skilled student as
manager of an Internet Cafe.
Provided $6100 pesos a month in supplementary
support to Profe. Manuel Davis Ramírez high
school in Loreto to hold a morning (0800
-1400) session for freshman year.
Provided partial financial assistance for 21
students from the rural communities so that
they could attend and complete their first
year of high school (August 2003-July 2004).
This year we have 38 students from the rural
communities as new freshmen and returning
sophomores.
Continued to operate our 16 passenger school
bus to transport student to the Computer
Center and English Class.
Provided a computer science teacher for
interim and advanced computer training at the
Di Caprio Computer Center at Puerto Escondido.
Provided the financial support, with the
assistance of the Municipio de Loreto, to
maintain and operatethe high
schoolstudent dormitory at
Ligüí where students from outlying areas stay
during the week while attending classes in
Loreto.
Provided partial scholarships for three
college students, one in first year Teacher’s
College, one in Tourism Training Program at
UABCS, and one now graduated and working as a
technician in a medical laboratory.
Provided two high school graduates (assisted
last year) as kindergarten teachers for
Ensenada Blanca and San José de Comundú.
THE
BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT for 2003/4
was completing the Internado/Albergue,
thedormitory residence where
students from the remote fish camps
and ranches have a place to stay
during the week while attending high
school. This allowed us to add a
number of students from the outer
communities to those from Ligüí and
Ensenada Blanca to make it
economically feasible to transport
them by bus to Loreto for high
school
The way
the program came together is that
the high school added a special
session to accommodate the new
students from the rural areas. For
the 2003/4 school year we had 21
students from Ligui and Ensenada
Blanca and the outlying areas that
were prepared to attend high
school. This year we have 38 and 85
when we count kids from Loreto who
had the opportunity to attend the
new morning session (the afternoon
session is fully subscribed).
This was our first big project, and
it was a lot of work for us – we are
all unpaid volunteers - but we were
rewarded by the way the dormitory
and high school project turned out.
There were several unforeseen needs
and expenses that AsistED managed to
address and resolve thanks to the
generous support of many people and
organizations
